Thinking about spending Christmas in Cyprus?
Christmas in Cyprus is a little different from the classic snowy Christmas many people imagine. You can enjoy mild days by the coast and, at the same time, drive up into the mountains where traditional villages are decorated with Christmas lights and filled with festive activities.
One of the nicest ways to experience it is by car.
Christmas villages in Cyprus
For the 2026–2027 Christmas season, nine villages across Cyprus will become official Christmas Villages: Agros, Deryneia, Fikardou, Kakopetria, Kalopanagiotis, Kyperounta, Lefkara, Lofou and Statos–Agios Fotios.
The Christmas Villages will operate from end of November 2026 until 6 January 2027. Visitors can find local products and handmade crafts, food and wine activities, workshops, nature activities and guided walks.
Each village has its own character, so you do not have to visit them all. You can simply choose the ones that fit your trip.
Why rent a car for Christmas in Cyprus?
If you want to visit more than one village, having your own car gives you much more freedom.
You can leave your hotel when you want, stop for coffee or lunch along the way and spend as much time as you like in each village.
It is also a good way to see a different side of Cyprus. Instead of staying only around the coast, you can drive through the countryside and into the Troodos Mountains, where the scenery changes completely.
For visitors staying in Paphos, for example, Statos–Agios Fotios is one of the Christmas Villages, while Lofou and several of the Troodos villages make great additions to a longer road trip.
Which Christmas villages should you visit?
🎄 Lofou
Lofou is a beautiful traditional village in the Limassol district, known for its stone houses, narrow cobbled streets and peaceful atmosphere.
During Christmas, its traditional setting makes it a lovely place for a festive walk.
🎄 Agros
Up in the Troodos Mountains, Agros is known for its traditional products, including rose products, sweets and cured meats. It is a great choice if you want to combine Christmas atmosphere with mountain scenery.
🎄 Kakopetria
Kakopetria is another popular mountain village, with traditional architecture, narrow streets and plenty of places to stop for a meal or coffee.
🎄 Kalopanagiotis
If you enjoy mountain scenery and traditional villages, Kalopanagiotis is well worth adding to your route. The village is surrounded by beautiful landscapes and is also home to important cultural sights.
🎄 Statos–Agios Fotios
For visitors staying around Paphos, Statos–Agios Fotios is an especially interesting choice. Located in the Paphos mountains, the village is surrounded by vineyards and countryside and has a long tradition of producing local fruit, nuts and wine.
Make your own Cyprus Christmas road trip
You do not need to plan a complicated itinerary.
Choose two or three villages that are close enough to combine in one day, leave some time for stops along the way and enjoy the journey.
You might start your day with a traditional village breakfast, visit a Christmas market, stop for a coffee or lunch and finish the afternoon surrounded by mountain views and Christmas lights.
And if you are staying in Cyprus for several days, you can create more than one Christmas day trip.
A few things to remember
The mountain villages can be much cooler than the coast, especially in the evening, so take a warm jacket with you.
It is also worth checking the opening days of the village you want to visit before setting off. Before 21 December, the Christmas Villages mainly operate on weekends and public holidays, while they are open daily from 21 December until 6 January.
If you are driving in the mountains, take your time and enjoy the roads rather than trying to fit too many places into one day.
